I really like Malay Mail’s reporting recently, they’ve really put in the work (and I hope it’s because there’s more resources?) to provide info and contextualize the news. The article goes into the business side of the their incorporation in the country.

    Iirc it’s to do with his own proprietary tech which made it hard to jury rig third party solutions. There’s also hard IP bans the way our ISP do it. Just because starlink won’t have Malaysia ownership doesn’t mean it won’t happen this way (twitter isn’t owned by Vietnam or Cambodia either and he fully agrees to their occasional demands to take down activist tweets). I can try to recall some old articles, but a lot of discussion during the last Iranian street protests explored the possibility and concluded with maybe-yes-but-probably not. And that’s before he fully had to own twitter too. (He’s already agreed not to provide starlink in china)
