HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam — U.S. officials are not attending the main public event commemorating the end of the Vietnam war in Ho Chi Minh City this week, according to a guest list released by the organizers and seen by NPR.

I wonder why the u.s isn’t joining thinking-about-it

Top of the list, announced at the final rehearsal for the April 30 military parade, are Vietnam’s biggest friends — Laos, Cambodia, Cuba and China.

What a fun list of friends. Bet there’s gonna be some fuckjng great food there

On April 30, 1975, North Vietnamese troops stormed the Independence Palace in central Saigon — now known as Ho Chi Minh City — ending the almost 20-year war that caused great losses to both North and South Vietnam, as well as the South’s ally the United States.

What a fun twisting of history. Anyways get fucked America, it’s time to party!

Kamala did visit the memorial to the soldiers who shot down John McCain, so why can’t they go to the parade?

USA has been salty about Vietnam and Cuba for decades.

The salt levels over Cuba are a tiny speck next to Vietnam. Most Americans have memory holed the Bay of Pigs and all the failed assassination attempts. Vietnam on the other hand, the catalyst for the modern Amerikkkan chud mindset comes from the neurosis over losing that war. That’s why there this constant overcompensating and self-congratulatory puffery, it’s the shame and anxiety about losing to the communists in such a humiliating way.

I had the displeasure of passing by a shitty cope-heavy meme that claims the U.S. lost Vietnam by killing so many Vietnamese they got bored and left.

This is why I avoid meme channels.

I didn’t know so many Vietnam vets played LoL. That explains so much. Always funny when someone with a score of 30/5/26 complains about losing. I always pour salt on it with my 0/17/42 score by saying:

            • “All those kills and you couldn’t kill the one building that actually matters.”
            • “You blew a 25 kill lead? LMAO uninstall.”
            • “Imagine losing to someone in Wood League.”
            • “Oh look the carry didn’t carry.”

I like to mix it up depending on my mood.

I got a comrade who’s over there right now, there’s a portuguese association called Red Routes that organizes groups to go visit stuff, including portugal, red tourism basically.

He just facetimed me to show me his bus going through Hanoi, pretty cool place, crazy amount of motorcycles compared to cars. Kinda regretting a little bit that I didn’t go with him.

The US was invited, but they’re being sore losers about it this year and refusing to join in the celebrations

since the normalization of relations Reunification Day has become more of a “peace and reconciliation” type of deal. The US went to previous ones and then sold Vietnam a bunch of Boeing engines and shit, the diplomatic relationship has been quite warm considering the history.

This snub is 100% just another Trump own goal that will hopefully push Vietnam back closer to the AES states

I think Vietnam knows not to trust the west. They are just playing friendly to be the next China and trick the west into helping them build up industrially. They wouldn’t actually turn on the other AES states and side with the west. I’ve had a few vietnamese friends and while theyre friendly to Americans much like the Chinese are they very much know their history, and aren’t about to forget who caused all their past suffering. Not to say that AES states are a monolith either they have their disagreements, but generally speaking theyre united in their anti imperialist stance. Despite putting on a friendly face for western elites.
