That wonderful 3 down, 1 up piston engine for perfect balance
The legendary 3½ piston engine
Wish I knew what block that is
It’s a 4a-f in ae92
Hot damn I would’ve guessed it was the 4banger from my 98 camry!
Piston 2 looks like ass bro… Oh, wait. I think some valves were trying to kiss that other piston a few times.
Cylinders 1 and 4 are really clean though. Did they get a coolent scrub?
Red clay should only be a temporary coolent replacement. 100 miles max.
There is more going on, but that covers the best bits me thinks.
Other than a thin layer of carbon, it is quite okay for the other piston. They run on tap water so the coolant is in that colour.
Haven’t tear it apart yet as i think it’s not needed, but initial hypothesis is, the bearing of piston 3 wear thin due to lack of oil and smacking the engine head, which caused the top of the piston expand, then seized up when in intake stroke and snap the cone rod, and the crankshaft smack the top half of the cone rod onto the side wall of the block, seize up the whole engine.
What’s the gunk in #3? Also, shouldn’t there be a different levelling in 1 and 4 (assuming this is a 4cyl and not 8)?
I dunno what that gunk could be. Burned oil?
Aren’t 1/4 and 2/3 on the same stroke but just at different parts of the cycle? I don’t know for sure.
#3 just looks like it got tired is all. :)
Impressive!
It that what’s known as an interference engine?
