Except even in this reality it still makes no sense.
The animals we raise are being fed plants that we grow, so eating animals is just accelerated plant genocide.
But more importantly, I think the aliens that are smart enough to make it to this planet will understand that our planet works differently in how energy flows through our ecosystem. I don’t think the sentient plants that developed space travel capabilities are going to scratch their heads at what an animal is.
This is just a nerd version of people trotting out the “Well look at this study that shows plants send chemical signals when they’re in distress, this is the same as dunking chickens in vats of boiling oil.”
