Japan’s culture is that you normally take your trash with you. Like I said, there are places the public can throw stuff away. But that’s not normal and you shouldn’t count on it.

Most all of the places tourists visit in Japan are not resorts built for their enjoyment, but a functioning city or social center where natives live and work (including historically-famous places like Kyoto).

Maybe tourists need to learn to hang onto their junk until they get back to their hotels.

Tbf there’s a konbini with trash cans every few hundred meters. Only issue being if you don’t buy something it’s not considered ok to use them afaik, but can just buy sth to eat immediately and throw away the packaging there or just something smaller than your trash and bring it with you after.

Or honestly ignore it because realistically as a tourist all your trash came from the previous konbini anyway and it would just even out. Just don’t go there to dump whatever.

We have functioning cities and social centers here as well. They have trash cans around the place. It’s not really that much to expect a trash can on a couple corners.

It’s also a change in mindset. If you know there won’t be trash cans, you’ll bring less trash with you. That’s why national parks advertise “pack it in, pack it out” so you don’t get people using the “disposable single use tents” or bring in other items that generate trash that ends up in the park.

Yeah I remember we went to London like 8 years ago and I distinctly remember carrying some candy wrapper in my pocket for like 40 minutes because when walking through the city there was not a singular rubbish bin to be found.

Yeah I get that. Still how does having a doggie bag help me get rid of the trash so I don’t have to carry it with me?

Me saying we have bins here refers to me not needing it in daily life.

I mentioned doggy bags for when you’re travelling so you have a way to stash garbage if there’s none around. This has nothing to do with your bins.
