The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the Madleen’s crew is being taken to Israel after Israeli commandos seized the vessel in international waters. The Madleen ship, launched by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, was close to 100 miles [160km] from Gaza when it was stopped. The ship was carrying humanitarian aid to Palestinians starving because of Israel’s siege. Israel’s most recent total blockade began on March 2, and has only partially lifted under mounting international pressure.

I believe in the right to resist occupation, including strikes on military targets. However, I also believe that peace requires education and rehabilitation rather than punishment. I live in Lebanon, so I’m facing Israel’s aggression on a monthly basis if not more (https://lemmy.ml/post/31243795). The last thing I want to see is the cycle of hatred, displacement, death, and genocide to continue. Israelis grow up under a system of propoganda, leading to the cycle mentioned. The system needs a change not just the people. That change can not happen through the endless exchange of aggression towards civillians, which further reassures Israeli propoganda to be true even when it is clearly not. This change happens with education and rehabilitation, which should come before any violent methods.

Again, I state that I am not against armed resistence to occupation. But I draw a red line between military targets and civillian settlers. That’s where propaganda grows, and that’s where we lose the moral ground that sways public global opinion. Israel thrives off the narrative of “they’re all terrorists”. Striking settlers just gives Isreal and the West a justification for their genocide and propaganda. Let’s take you narrative: After you bomb every single settler, displace millions, and make their lives a living hell like they are doing to us? What happens next? Their violence only grows. That’s the problem with “any type of violence”. Abolish heiarchy, but replace it. It can’t be replace with violence. The violence just continues the cycle, leading to genocide.

How are you going to non-violently put yourself in a position where you control Israeli education and media?

Why should we “control Israeli education and media”? That’s the same authoritarian rule that leads to propaganda. Also, based on your question, it seems you’re arguing towards violently putting yourself in a postition where you control Israeli education and media. Ignoring the fact that controlling education and media results to the same authoritarian rule that leads to propoganda, that sounds like a fascist dictatorship rather than rehabilitation, education, or even resistence.

You say “change happens with education and rehabilitation”, and yet you condemn the idea of actually doing that.

I am against the idea of controlling education and media that does not mean I am against of education and rehabilitation themselves.

You don’t have to control to do. I don’t have to control my comrades to work with them. I don’t need to control education and media like a fascist dictator to inform.

If you consider the people who currently control Israeli education and media your “comrades”, you really shouldn’t be calling other people fascists
