Donald Trump’s administration on Saturday was accused of promoting the Russian flag, on Flag Day.

The Department of Defense over the weekend wished social media a “Happy Flag Day!”

“Let us honor the emblem of our nation and the stars and stripes that unite us all. As we display our nations flag and reflect on the values it represents, let’s celebrate the freedom, courage and resilience that makes our country great,” the department stated Saturday.

The image attached to the post included two small images that appear to represent the Russian flag.

    Tweet in question.

I think there are more serious things to write about the trump administration than a graphic design gaff

To me this looks as much as a gaff as Elon Musk his Nazi salutes. This “gaff” is yet another obvious dog whistle by USA republicans.

A dog whistle in this context is saying or implying something that could be easily denied, but was intended for a certain specific audience to understand, like how a dog hears the whistle but the owner can’t.

So I could say “at around 14:00 I helped an 88 year old man at the protests, we should all start doing the same”

That alone is just a statement about an old man at the protests, the dog whistle is “I was counter protesting with my Nazi friends and we need more of us involved”. Since 14 and 88 are Nazi codes, they’re put in as unnecessary details that wouldn’t normally stand out or really be mentioned in a normal conversation.

A dog whistle is something most people won’t hear/see, but those in the know will. Like an actual dog whistle; a whistle that’s higher pitch than humans can hear but dogs can.

The question I’m constantly asking myself, is this incompetence or Russian influence?

The answer I usually come up with is “probably both”.

I see the design choice since the background is blue. But the answer is you change the background or separate the flag colors from it. You don’t go transparent because the background is the color you want. It’s a separate thing and it’s always red-white-blue. This is like wearing a green tie if you’re a weather person, except they’re usually competent and do it on purpose.

I’d throw the “porque no los dos” meme up here, but it was deported last week.

Unless the military has been controlled by the Russians for well over a hundred years, this is a standard military badge.

There is no gaff here, just a bunch of people who dont know what symbols the military uses.

It’s incredibly uncommon, but yes it has been done before. I think it’s unlikely they were referencing these incredibly uncommon medals.

of course someone of your persuasion would call it a gaff and not a sign of their actual loyalty

People won’t take you seriously if you say tinfoil brained stuff like this instead of pointing out actual legitimate links to Russia or actual atrocities the Trump administration has committed.

Oh sorry, did I step out of line? I can’t criticise news reports that are critical of Trump for stupid reasons?

That report also didn’t show the tweet and just stated as a fact the USA department “tweeted two small russian flags”, hoping the reader won’t scroll down enough to see the actual tweet and make their own mind up, or if they did, they were served enough ads.

Anyway, your tribal thinking is why you are in the hot water your country is in anyway. We should be free to be critical of reports from our own side of the political spectrum or from our own ideology.

That’s a lot of words to defend a Russian stooge, weird that you’d defend the Russian-backed Nazi at all

Not that shocking someone who thinks sky daddy is real would give the Russian president a pass on his treason, who cares why

I would love nothing more than to watch Vladimir Putin tortured to death on live television. But sure, because I, like the majority of the global population, believe in the divine, I must be simping for Putin like a teenage Chinese girl. Touch grass. It’s people with your attitude who let Donald Trump win the 2024 United States of America Presidential Election

This represents any other country with a similar color scheme. Like france, iceland, chile, costa rica, north korea and others. This is honesty a bunch of nothingness, but the left likes to rage over clickbait just as bad as everyone else.
