Settlers: The Mythology Of The White Proletariat from Mayflower to Modern - J. Sakai
A uniquely important book in the canon of the North American revolutionary left and anticolonial movements, Settlers was first published in the 1980s. Written by activists with decades of experience organizing in grassroots anticapitalist struggles against white supremacy, the book established itself as an essential reference point for revolutionary nationalists and dissident currents within the Marxist-Leninist and anarchist movements. Always controversial within the establishment left, Settlers uncovers centuries of collaboration between capitalism and white workers and their organizations, as well as their neocolonial allies, showing how the United States was designed from the ground up as a parasitic and genocidal entity. As recounted in painful detail by J. Sakai, the United States has been built on the theft of Indigenous lands and of Afrikan labor, on the robbery of the northern third of Mexico, the colonization of Puerto Rico, and the expropriation of the Asian working class, with each of these crimes being accompanied by violence.
The counter-revolution of 1776: slave resistance and the origins of the United States of America - Gerald Horne
In this trailblazing book, Gerald Horne complements his earlier celebrated Negro Comrades of the Crown, by showing that in the prelude to 1776, the abolition of slavery seemed all but inevitable in London, delighting Africans as much as it outraged slaveholders, and sparking the colonial revolt. In the prelude to 1776, more and more Africans were joining the British military, and anti-slavery sentiments were deepening throughout Britain. And in the Caribbean, rebellious Africans were chasing Europeans to the mainland. Unlike their counterparts in London, the European colonists overwhelmingly associated enslaved Africans with subversion and hostility to the status quo. For European colonists, the major threat to security in North America was a foreign invasion combined with an insurrection of the enslaved. And as 1776 approached, London-imposed abolition throughout the colonies was a very real and threatening possibility–a possibility the founding fathers feared could bring the slave rebellions of Jamaica and Antigua to the thirteen colonies. To forestall it, they went to war. The so-called Revolutionary War, Horne writes, was in large part a counter-revolution, a conservative movement that the founding fathers fought in order to preserve their liberty to enslave others–and which today takes the form of a racialized conservatism and a persistent racism targeting the descendants of the enslaved. The Counter-Revolution of 1776 drives us to a radical new understanding of the traditional heroic creation myth of the United States.

I have a question but I don’t want to start a new thread so here: (Israel & politics related)
Why can’t Israel stop doing the genocide?
Clearly it’s not going well. It’s destroying their image not just in the west asia region, but also the entire globe. Being against Isn’treal is becoming more mainstream than ever. And they are paying a lot in (American) resources and lives.
Like it’s not like they can’t stop because they are in a war or something. At any moment, they can just turn around and say “we have achieved everything we wanted, war’s over”. There are no foreign occupiers in Israel except the Israelis. The whole 12 day Iran war could’ve been avoided entirely if they just didn’t bomb Iran out of nowhere.
Why? Why can’t they just stop? Why do they feel the need to keep going?
The only theory that makes sense is that the Israeli society is so twisted, they are basically doing blood for the blood gods now. But I don’t want to believe that, I believe in every country being rational actors. I’ve seen the harm of western media characterizing whole countries as “evil” or “hate us for our freedoms”, I don’t want to do the same. I feel like I must’ve been missing a critical piece of the puzzle here. What am I missing?
iirc the genocide has like 97% support and like 2.5% who just want forcible removal (ethnic cleansing)I did not recall correctly
We should probably find a number, but from my memory the 90+% number includes support for forcible removal. There was the poll a few weeks ago where it was like ~60% support the killing of all inhabitants of a conquered city which is much much more than enough support to get the job done.
thanks I updated
It’s part of the Zionist worldview, like the US removing natives and colonizing to the Pacific Ocean in the name of Manifest Destiny. I think generally believing actors are rational is good but Zionism is not a rational ideology. The people in the West backing them are either benefitting through weapons contracts and other types of business or are Zionists themselves that are acting as they believe God wants them to. This is supported by mountains of statements from Israeli officials, media, and average settlers.
Their actions follow rationally from the beliefs they share with the rest of “Western civilization”. They believe that a singular all powerful god created a racial hierarchy, put them at the top of it, and made the entire planet and everything in it for their exclusive use. They see the people they’re exterminating as nonhuman vermin infesting the planet god made for them. They respond to any sympathy for their victims the way an average person would respond to the suggestion that they should share their home with rats or cockroaches.
A well adjusted person might find it hard to accept that someone could genuinely believe that, but if you’re speaking English right now then you’re living in a state founded and ruled by people who fundamentally believe the same thing.
It’s going great as far as they’re concerned. They’re getting exactly what they want out of it: more land and fewer indigenous people living on it. Why would it matter to them if a bunch of powerless foreign serfs that they don’t recognize as human think badly of them? Their actions are overwhelming popular to the only people they see as equals, and any foreign country they’re not currently attacking is either giving them weapons and criminalizing opposition or wagging their finger and looking the other way.
It’s fascism. It’s why we’ll win in the end. They believe they are superior to those around them and thus any capitulation in the slightest is unacceptable.
