The Hollywood A-lister appears as one half of a couple looking to become home-improvement TV stars in the latest series from Nathan Fielder. It's inspired, writes Caryn James.

Comes up trumps again? What? Is this something people say?

In the UK there’s a card game “top trumps”:

Also in various card games (with a standard 52 card deck), like bridge, beating one hand with a better hand would be said to have one hand ‘trump’ another.

I hate that there’s a shady guy out there that has that word so tied to him.

      Probably a British expression

I’ve heard that in the UK “Trump” is old person slang for a fart and has been since before the American Trump family was well known.

It is indeed but it’s also used in a lot of card games to describe one hand that trumps (beats) another…

Sometimes I think headlines try to find any excuse to put the word “trump” in. Ya know for various reasons…

Have you played many card games? Trump cards are ones that beat any other card in a hand.

I’m aware of trump cards in card games. I’d just never heard “comes up trumps” as a turn of phrase. Made no sense to me in the context of a tv show.

It’s really weird phrasing… It’s not just you.
