It maybe an unpopular opinion but the first one kinda felt lifeless to me

I agree that it felt a bit lifeless but at least it´s true to the book, something that can´t be said about the abomination that Lynch directed. I keep telling myself that in a parallel universe Jodorowsky´s Dune was actually made and plays the role in pop culture that Star Wars plays in our universe.

The Lynch movie might be an abomination. But I just love it regardless.

Hey Pleb, nice to see you! I respect Lynch as the surrealist director he is quite a lot. Just when it comes to Dune I get very picky, because I read it a dozen times and it has been my favorite book since I was thirteen and the Lynch movie is … really far away from Frank Herberts vision in my opinion. I am happy for you if you like it though, enjoy!

Hi Nakedmole, always nice to bump into each other. :)

I didn’t actually watch any other Lynch movie. But yeah, that movie is more inspired by the book than that it follows it. I guess my love for this movies comes from the facts that I played the Lynch movie inspired Dune 2000 as a kid, and later watched the movie before I read the books.
I also love cheesy bad movies in general. And what could be more cheesy than Captain Picard carrying a Pug into battle?

Anyways, I’m thinking of seeing the double feature of this Dune movie in the cinema, as I didn’t manage to catch the first one.

Then you absolutely should imo. Lynch is legendary for a reason. I recommend Mulholland Drive, Wild at Heart and Eraserhead. Just know that Eraserhead is very creepy.

Me too! It was my first rts, which I played on my dads 386 :D

And what could be more cheesy than Captain Picard carrying a Pug into battle?

I get it somehow - at least as a joke - but stuff like this is exactly why I am personally not a fan of Lynch´s Dune. There simply are no pugs in the book and I will never get why someone would add weird stuff like that to a serious epic that takes place in one of the most deep and well thought through sci-fi universes ever created by an author. The Villeneuve movie does not capture the sheer depth of Herberts universe but at least he did not make up weird additional stuff that feels completely random. Yes, I admit it, I am a Frank Herbert fanboy and whenever I feel his vision is not respected I react like an angry child.

Anyways, I’m thinking of seeing the double feature of this Dune movie in the cinema, as I didn’t manage to catch the first one.

That´s great, have fun my dude!

It’s probably because it had to spend so much time on character history/relationship and world building to get people familiar with the scenario who didn’t read the books.

The one criticism I saw from someone else was how dark it was. Like on a modern TV at home, some scenes were almost to dark to be seen

Harry Potter? Yeah a lot of the scene from the later sequel is just way too dark it’s hard to even see what’s going on.

HP movies colors are just so dark. It’s probably my biggest gripe with the movie. All joy and color is gone from movie 5.

My only complaint about it was that it was half a movie and it just randomly ended mid way through the story.

Not an opinion. It’s a fact. I watched the 1984 version, spice diver edit, after it. Sooo much better.
