When Malaysia agreed to participate in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in 2016, a flock of mega­projects involving Chinese investments began to crop up around the country.

An IDEAS study on the Belt and Road Initiative projects in Malaysia, has found that a significant number of Chinese landowners had insider information and strategically bought land along the East Coast Rail Link.

These landowners are alleged to have links to the MCA.
