Although part of me is morbidly curious to know what chuds will blurt out at the dinner table about China and Mexico.

I will be getting drunk and ranting about communism the second politics comes up. I won’t start the fight but I sure as shit will finish it.

I am basically on my phone or kindle at every holiday. If it wasn’t for my kiddos, I’d just stay home. I don’t celebrate or care about holidays. They are just excuses for corpos to put their treat machine into overdrive so they can have shitty sales. And for the most part, holidays just feel fake. Everyone pretends to be nice with each other because they are “family” whatever the fuck that is supposed to mean. But also lib family members just have the shittiest takes imaginable.

I’m trying to psychologically prepare for whatever this aunt ends up saying to pretend I didn’t hear it. But I suck at masking.

Hosting a vegan friendsgiving. My worst fear is that we don’t have enough pre-meal snacks.

The main meal is a tofurky roast in a simple herb glaze, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, herbed mashed potatoes, miso honey brussel sprouts, mushroom gravy (no chunks), sausage stuffing, cranberry sauce, apple pie, pumpkin pie.

The pre-meal snacks are: chips with homemade salsa, hummus and crackers, “chicken” pasta salad, and homemade coffee cake

Sounds good! We had a vegan Friendsgiving last week potluck style. I made a seitan turkey that was pretty good. Our family sucks so it’s just my wife, toddler, baby and myself today, and I get to make another vegan spread. Just did a main, two sides, and pumpkin pie but I’m wiped out.

my mother was talking about 2 dollar bills and said “those mexicans probably won’t know what they are, they’ll say it’s fake!”

Is today Thanksgiving? I’ve always thought it sounds like a really nice idea on paper, but I do get that the real world is full of uncles. Hope you have the nicest time possible and that the food is tasty and that you have something to be happy about!

I eventually stopped going to holidays where the uncles congregate after hearing the same tired jokes about not eating meat for over a decade.

Sorry about that. I have uncles of the sort and a lifetime of experience getting through family gatherings with them. You should go into the standard uncle encounter like you are going to speak to a young child. His opinions on immigration will be as loudly expressed and as relevant as a child raving about Fortnite and if you manage to get any point across to him you should feel the same amount of pride. Just don’t miss out on meeting any lovely part of the family because of unclephobia. I have aunts and cousins who make it worth listening to hours of uncle talk if I have to to meet them. I hope everyone else is so lucky.

Going to my uncle’s for Thanksgiving, he used to have a Hillary for Prison hat. Luckily most of us are just socially aware enough not to do more than a passing mention of politics with family

Ha ha! Joke’s on you! We were supposed to have Thanksgiving last month! But we didn’t because nobody in the family could afford it!

This is, naturally, the libs’ fault.

(It is actually, but I mean it like “neoliberal policy has eroded public institutions, blah blah, complicated and nuanced answer,” and they mean it like, “IT’S THE JEWS!!!”

I’m so glad I’m recovering from surgery and not dealing with family…though I had to deal with them on Sunday so I didn’t exactly get away. But something about it not having been on Thanksgiving must’ve mellowed them out, but who knows. To be fair, they’re not the worst, but they are libs.
