I have seen the quoted take unironically upvoted here on Hexbear

It’s the obvious extrapolation of the given quote’s logic. Just replace “fuck” with any other verb. Or just realize that it applies equally well to any society where it’s possible to masturbate in private, no porn necessary.

contextphobic You’re entirely mischaracterizing the argument.

What you’ve done here is the exact same thing as the classic “if you replace the word capitalists with Jews, this sounds pretty bad” bad faith strawman. I’m not suggesting you’ve done this in bad faith, but rethink this.

I’ve thought about it and re-thought about it and I’m still not seeing whatever it is I’m supposed to see.

“If you replace this word in your sentence with the totally different concept I mentally substituted here, your argument is despicable.”

What you suggested was an obvious extrapolation is not obvious to others. You have read into the original argument something that was neither explicitly nor implicitly stated.

You have constructed a strongman argument going from “Spending all day jacking off instead of experiencing physical intimacy with another person is alienating” to “Doing or enjoying indoor or solitary activities is inherently reactionary and communism necessitates extroversion.”

          Absurd leap to make.

Okay, fine. I want to understand why the word replacement is invalid. Why is masturbation alienating but not other solitary activities?

I don’t even necessarily agree with OttoboyEmpire’s argument, but you mischaracterizing it in this way in order to describe it as ableist is absolutely unfair bad faith behaviour on your part.

If you are unable to understand why twisting a comrade’s argument around into something else entirely so that you can call them bigoted is unacceptable and CoC violating behavior, I think we’re done here.

If you’re going to read malicious intent into my genuine confusion, then yes, we’re done here. I would’ve thought that five years on this site would buy me enough goodwill that I’d be allowed to ask for clarification when I apparently misinterpret something, though.

Are you asking for clarification on how Strawmanning is bad faith, or are you asking for clarification on how what you did here was Strawmanning OttoboyEmpire’s argument?

                    The latter.

E: Like, I don’t need any help understanding why straw manning is bad. That much is self-evident. I’m just not sure where exactly I made the wrong leap of logic here.
