Preview version of Lemming App is now available - Lemmy.world
lemmy.worldHello everyone! For the last two weeks, I have been working on an Android app
for Lemmy as a side project. It’s called Lemming and has now reached a state
where I want to make it publicly available. The app is not yet available on the
Play Store, so if you want to install it, you can download the APK file from
Google Drive.

Here are some key features that Lemming has right now: - Support for multiple
accounts - Swipe to vote for posts and comments - Navigate comments with the
volume buttons - Long press on a comment to collapse it - Write posts and
comments with a text editor that supports text styling and a preview - Long
press on post image thumbnail to see the full image - UI is optimized for
phones, tablets, and foldables Some screenshots to give you a better idea:

What’s next? I plan to release a beta version of Lemming on Google Play next
week, to make installing and updating the app easier. Then I will focus on
adding missing features like supporting links, displaying user profiles,
personal messages, search and community sidebars. I also want to add
customization options and improve the accessibility of the app. Lot’s to do :)
Of course all of this depends on the feedback I get from the community and what
is most important to the users. So don’t hesitate to give feedback and tell me
what features you would like to see next!
Hmmmm. But im using an app called lemmy though? Is that not the official app?
What happened is that you probably installed the PWA (progressive web app) which is basically a container for the browser window that’s specifically pointed to your Lemmy instance. You can check your actual browser app and see the history, all your Lemmy activities will be there also :)
These Europeans (i noticed pre-2022 Fedi are dominated by them) damn love these PWAs, so practically every Fedi instance you sign up will have a little prompt to ask if you want to install.
Hmm, there’s no official app for lemmy though, the only app available right now without sideload is jerboa for android, and upcoming Mlem for ios.
There’s a whole bunch of apps that are being developed for Lemmy/Kbin. I’ve been trying out a few, all are still very much work in progress, Mlem is nice but barely usable yet. Liftoff/Limbo is already very usable on iOS. I’m most excited for Artemis for now.

I see, Connect and Summit is new to me(because it’s new lol), and most other i known of is either still in development or is currently on beta. On the ios side the one i heard a lot of buzz are Thunder Mlem and Memmy, but all still in beta iirc. So jerboa is the current stable one that i tried.
Yeah, I mostly just use my web browser for now, but in a few months the third-party app scene for Lemmy should be very vibrant. I’m a Mastodon user as well and we’re spoilt with choices over there with great apps like Ivory, Mona, and Ice Cubes alongside the official app.
