    This always gets said whenever I bring this up, but I did. I was on the phone constantly, and I even went there in person. They didn’t budge. I think it’s a reddit myth started by a few people who either had good luck or were part of the in-group that gets this treatment.

        Bingo! I’m normally part of the out-group for being poor, gay, and unpopular – but I never realized how drastically different people can be treated based on appearance until I started dating my now-husband who is Hispanic and has darker skin

        One of the most obvious experiences is going into any higher-end store and observing the staff’s reaction and treatment of me vs. him. Nordstrom has been one of the worst offenders, to the point that we no longer even go in there.

        But it absolutely happens in healthcare, too!
