He’s stressed but absolutely refuses to get help.

He said he had depression once when he was young and he called the Befrienders at that time, but what they ended up doing is asking him to donate to their church and to join christianity.

And recently he tried to talk to one of my older cousins who is a licensed psychiatrist, but she blamed his stress on his refusal to join their big family events that cost a lot of money (which is completely unrelated).

So now he doesn’t believe in professional mental help.

I have called several helpline on behalf of a runaway girl. And i agree they couldnt offer any solid help except lending a pair of ears. I think there is an association called wau or something, gave me a few numbers that allergedly offers free lodging for runaways, but end up all oldnumbers.

I think even lending an ear is good enough. Sometimes we just need a place to vent. What’s not cool though is taking that opportunity to recruit someone into a cult or worse, do what my cousin did.

That’s actually quite sad. I hope he would realise one day that those are situations where the ball was dropped and were utterly unprofessional. Maybe could sponsor him for a few sessions with a private psychotherapist and see how it goes. Or show him peoples’ response on threads where they received actual help.

I really want to sponsor him with a private one one day when I can afford it. Right now I’m focusing on my own needs first.

Right on, self-care first. And definitely can see you do care about him too at the same time.

If mental health professionals really exist, why haven’t I ever seen one?

On a serious note any real-or-perceived difficulty whatsoever (other unresolved issues, cost, waiting lists/scheduling, paperwork, transportation/distance, psychiatrist problems/incompatibility etc) might be significant reasons or at least adding to it.

Though I think stress might be an expected outcome for certain situations that I’m not sure can really be helped like that. Though that is a stretch because maybe you do mean dwelling/undue stress/really getting to him/depression symptoms etc.

They exist if you have money.

And if you are able to pay regularly.
